JACKSBORO, JACK COUNTY - A newly constructed wind farm in Jack County is generating enough energy to supply electricity for about 45,000 homes in Texas.

The Keechi Wind Farm, roughly five miles south of Jacksboro on Farm-to-Market Rd. 4, officially began commercial operation January 27 when construction of all 55 turbines was completed, said Mitch Kerley, the site supervisor for energy company Enbridge.

The 311-foot tall towers were built by contractor RES Americas, and have a 327-foot rotor diameter.

Total investment cost for the project was $200 million.

Construction of the wind farm’s infrastructure began in December 2013 on 15,000 acres in Jack County.

Tower construction was started in September.
