Houston furniture store ‘shanks’ on showroom and distribution center
HOUSTON – Furniture store Louis Shanks of Texas will close its 120,000-sf showroom and 80,000-sf distribution center in Houston, according to trade publication Furniture Today.
Mike Forwood, president of the Austin-based company, told Furniture Today that a private sale is set to begin October 1, followed by a public store closing sale that’s expected to last through February 20.
Forwood hasn’t decided whether Louis Shanks will emerge in another form in Houston, he told Furniture Today.
The company will consolidate its operations into its 106,000-sf Austin showroom and 68,000-sf San Antonio store, and it might try introducing new formats in those markets, as well.
In 2009, Louis Shanks opened a temporary 40,000-sf showroom in Houston’s Galleria area, and a similar temporary showroom off Hwy. 290 a couple of years earlier received a good response from customers.
Louis Shanks’ existing Houston location is at 2800 Fondren Rd., between Westheimer Rd. and Richmond Ave. west of the Galleria area.
