KATY - The Pete Rose Hit King Baseball Academy is slated to start construction September 23.

The 20,000-sf facility is scheduled to open next spring in time for the new baseball season, according to Community Impact.

It's named after Pete Rose, Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader and Cincinnati Reds legend who helped with the center's development.

Rose is working with Derek Hurley, a former player for the Pittsburgh Pirates and owner of The Bull Pen Scouting and Training Facility in Cypress.

The project will be managed by Hurley and co-owners Ryan Baker and Johnny Johnson. It is expected to cost between $11 million and $14 million.

Even the facility's address, 4256 Hit King Pkwy., FM 2855, is linked to Rose's hitting prowess.

The center aims to train youth, high school and college players on the major skills of the game and will host several teams.
