SAN ANTONIO - The Broadway Theater was sold last week to its longtime manager, commercial real estate firm RFM Commercial Inc.

The theater is a landmark art deco building on Broadway in Alamo Heights.

RFM's owner, Richard McCaleb, said the firm plans to upgrade the building at 4940 Broadway but won't make any drastic changes. Its roughly 25,000 sf of office space is about 85 percent occupied, he said.

The three-story building opened as an 834-seat theater in 1939 and served as an entertainment hub in Alamo Heights before showing its last movie in 1982. In 1984, developers renovated it into retail and office space.

The property was assessed at $1.4 million this year, according to the Bexar Appraisal District.
