​​​​TEXAS - UT dropped four spots to No. 56 on the 2017 edition of U.S. News & World Report's ranking of the nation's best large schools.

It ended up tied with Dallas' Southern Methodist University which was named one of the most innovative schools in the country. 

Texas A&M University in College Station came in at No. 74 overall among the country​'s 310 largest schools. It ranked No. 27 nationally among public schools. 

UT ranked No. 18 nationally among public schools.

Rice University in Houston again was the top-ranked Texas school at No. 15 nationally on U.S. News' Best Colleges list. 

Ten Texas universities were ranked among the top large schools in the nation in U.S. News & World Report's 2017 Best Colleges list.
