​​DALLAS - After four months of digging for the new Union development on Akard St. at Cedar Springs Rd., construction crews digging the biggest hole in Uptown construction crews are now 50 feet below street level. 

Construction will now begin on two towers and retail space on the one-block site.

The Union will include a 14-story office tower and a 23-story residential high-rise. 

The $300 million Union is scheduled to open in 2018. 

Law firm Vinson & Elkins and Weaver has rented about 140,000 sf of offices in the new building.

Grocer Tom Thumb will open a 60,000-sf store on the ground floor of the project in addition to 309 apartments in the residential building.
