AUSTIN – Central Texan households might not have gotten a big raise last year, but new Census data released shows that incomes in the region are rising steadily while the poverty rate declined.

Median household income across the Austin area rose slightly to $67,195 per year in 2015, according to the Census Bureau, up from $63,603 in 2014 and $61,750 seen in 2013.

Census data released shows that incomes in the Austin region are rising steadily while the poverty rate declined.

Across the entire Austin region, the poverty rate dropped to approximately 11.7 percent of the population, roughly 229,383 people.

That’s down dramatically from the 15.1 percent poverty rate recorded in 2014 and the 14.3 percent rate seen across the region in 2013.
