AMARILLO - Amarillo College (AC) has wrapped up a number of campus renovations, and work is underway on a couple more projects.

The core of the college’s Washington Street Campus has seen $3.7 million in renovations.

The changes include a newly designed student commons with a tutoring center, a redone mall area, and upgrades to an administrative floor in the College Union Building.

The ground floor of what was formerly known as the Lynn Library Building has been revamped and now bears the name Ware Student Commons.

Additionally, at AC East Campus, ground has broken on a new 6,900-sf aviation hangar and a 13,300-sf addition to the school’s Diesel Transportation Career Center totaling over $3 million.

Local industry has taken notice of the expansions, which AC expects will be complete by fall 2017.

“The trucking industry in the Amarillo area is very large,” said Deon McGimpsey, general manager of Premier Truck Group’s Amarillo office. “We definitely need a good supply of students.”
