AUSTIN - Data Foundry Inc. is building a second data center called Texas 2.

The Austin-based data center operator recently filed for a building permit for an interior buildout at 4100 Smith School Rd. in Southeast Austin.

The work is valued at just under $23.5 million.

In late May of 2010, Data Foundry announced plans for Texas 1, a data center to be built in two phases on Smith School Rd. that would represent an investment of about $150 million.

The first phase of Texas one—totaling 130,000 sf—opened in 2011.

Austin is seen as a desirable location for data centers.
