​​AUSTIN – Texas homes purchased by international buyers added more than $10 billion to th​e Texas economy between April 2015 and March 2016, according to the Texas International Homebuyers Report released yesterday by the Texas Association of Realtors.

International buyers accounted for 7 percent (214,885 sales) of all U.S. home sales and 6.75 percent ($102.6 billion) of total U.S. home sales dollar volume. Approximately 10 percent (21,488 sales, $10.2 billion)​ of this activity occurred in Texas—a 2 percent increase from the same period last year.

Thirty-four percent of the state's international buyers were from Asia/Oceania, and 36 percent were from Latin America. Twelve percent were European, 8 percent were African, and 4 percent were Canadian.

Twenty percent of Indian buyers purchasing in the U.S. bought a home in Texas—the highest volume of any state. Texas also continued to have the highest share of buyers from Mexico, with 35 percent of them purchasing a home here.​​
