CYPRESS, FAIRBANKS – Rising property tax values in Harris County and across the state over the past few years are putting a strain on home and business owners.

Between 2005 and 2014, Harris County property tax levies have increased by 79 percent, according to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Over that same time, median household incomes only increased 29 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. 
The average assessed value of property in Cy-Fair increased by 20.5 percent between 2014 and 2016—from $177,002 to $213,327. 
The Property Tax Committee established by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick that has been tasked with finding ways to alleviate the property tax burden in the 2017 legislative session.
