Best Buy e-commerce enters Texas! San Marcos wins

​SAN MARCOS – The City of San Marcos has been selected as the site of retailer Best Buy’s first Texas e-commerce sales facility, which Adriana Cruz, Greater San Marcos Partnership president, said could be one of the largest sales-tax generators in the city. ​​

“A previously vacant 20,000-sf building will now be a major revenue source for the city, which can be put towards serving the residents of San Marcos. This is a big win, and I am excited at the possibilities that will be open to our community with these good jobs and revenue,” San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero said in a news release.

Best Buy is expected to begin operations at its facility, located at 900 Bugg Ln., in October.

Best Buy will be required to employ 25 people in the facility’s first year of operation, 40 people in the second year and 50 people in the third year. 

Those jobs must be permanent, full-time positions earning at least $15 per hour.

The project is expected to generate $43 million and $14.4 million for the city and Hays County, respectively, at the end of the term of the agreement.​
