HOUSTON – Local rents fell 14 percent from last month, according to a new report from Abodo.

Rents dropped from $1,521 per month in July to $1,306 per month in August. This decline was the largest nationally.

Abodo attributed the rent decline to the oil slump, which has slowed economic growth in the Bayou City.

Other cities that posted big declines are:

  • Cleveland and Mesa, Ariz.: -9 percent
  • Lincoln, Neb. and Toledo, Ohio: -8 percent
  • Miami: -6 percent
  • Detroit and Fresno, Calif.: -5 percent
