DALLAS-FORT WORTH – American Airlines is making all of its in-flight movies, television and music offerings free for all passengers, echoing a similar move by Delta Air Lines earlier this summer, as U.S. carriers compete to offer the best entertainment options.

American previously offered a limited selection of free television and movie offerings on domestic flights, with new-release movies and premium shows typically selling for $4 to $8.

Now, movies such as Captain America: Civil War and television shows including HBO’s Game of Thrones will be available free to all passengers, even those sitting in coach.

American said the entertainment options will be available on its in-flight entertainment systems installed on about 300 planes.

Fort Worth-based American said its current library includes 165 movies, 300 television shows, 700 music albums and 20 games.
