The new Summerwood Marketplace is the Houston area's 12th Marketplace store.
Kroger store, at 14221 E. Sam Houston Parkway, employs 300 people.
It features a gasoline station and Cork & Tap beer and wine bar.
The retailer's Marketplace stores are built larger to cater to one-stop shopping, with offerings expanding beyond traditional grocery departments such as meat, produce, deli, a pharmacy and health products to apparel, shoes, toys, and a technology shop for office and computer supplies.
Kroger and other retailers' plans for the rest of the year show that Houston's grocery boom is still rolling forward, as predicted, with grocers positioning themselves to take advantage of residential development fed by years of population growth. | Houston Chronicle
