HOUSTON - Amazon.com, Inc. today announced plans to open its seventh Texas fulfillment center in Houston.

Amazon currently employs more than 10,000 full-time hourly associates at its five operating Texas fulfillment centers and plans to create 1,000 more full-time positions at the new Houston site.

Amazon employees at the 855,000-sf Houston fulfillment center will pick, pack and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys.

“We’re proud to welcome Amazon to Harris County,” said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett.

“The relationship between Amazon, one of the nation’s premier businesses, and Harris County—the third largest county in the nation—will benefit both, and the economy as a whole.”

Elsewhere in the Lone Star State, Amazon currently operates fulfillment centers in Coppell, Haslet, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Schertz, with an upcoming facility in San Marcos currently under construction.
