KINGSVILLE - Since 1942, Hangar 4 at the Naval Air Station Kingsville has housed pilot training squadrons, including those who fought in World War II.

The 106,000-sf hangar has seen generations of Navy pilots and planes come and go.

On July 18, officials hosted a groundbreaking for a $17.9 million repair and renovation of the nearly 75-year-old hangar.

Naval Air Station Kingsville executive officer Rey Molina said although the hangar gets maintenance regularly, this is the biggest renovation since it opened.

The repairs include removal and replacement of the roof, interior walls, fire protection, ceiling, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Bristol Industries is the contractor for the project estimated to be complete by October 2017.
