​​​​​TEXAS - The Lone Star state is top in the nation for warehouse construction.

It is second nationally in both office and retail building, according to one of the country's top commercial real estate groups.

The commercial property sector supports 387,609 jobs and contributes $23 billion to the state's economy, according to a new report by the NAIOP Research Foundation.

Texas was second in the country for office construction last year, behind only New York. 

Office projects totaled about $6.4 billion.

The state was second behind New York in retail building with more than $4 billion in projects.

Texas ranked first nationally in warehouse development with more than $2.7 billion in construction.

Virtually tied with New York, Texas is a leader in total commercial real estate spending.
