WACO – Fort Worth-based D.R. Horton, America’s largest homebuilder, entered the Greater Waco market in 2005 and continues to create a large footprint.

Its crown jewel is now gaining steam.

Park Meadows reportedly would feature 1,500 homes built on 300 acres just off Ritchie Rd. within the Waco city limits, though near Hewitt and Woodway.

Bobby Horner, Waco’s inspection supervisor, said plans for the subdivision are arriving in his department for review.

“The message being delivered by D.R. Horton is that Waco is an up-and-coming and growing community that can create the demand for something like this. They would not be here otherwise. They didn’t become a billion-dollar company by taking wild chances and not knowing what they’re doing,” said Scott Bland, a longtime local contractor.
