AUSTIN – Wonder how much a company such as Google Inc. would be willing to spend on designing new offices in downtown Austin?

It looks like $20.2 million for just the first 140,000 sf of a 200,000-sf lease.

This is according to documents Google filed on May 18 at the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration (TDLR).

More than a year ago, Google signed a lease for 200,000 sf at the 29-story, 500,000-sf office tower that Trammell Crow began to build on the site of the former Green Water Treatment Plant.

The project, now well underway, is formally called "500 W. 2nd St.."

The TDLR document notes that the design project is scheduled to begin in November 2016 and be completed in June 2017.
