AMARILLIO – A new Amarillo Independent School District elementary school is in the works to help the district cope with residential development in southeast Amarillo.

A school will be constructed in the soon-to-be-growing Tradewind Square subdivision, west of Tradewind St. and south of East 46th Ave.

The specifications outline a 74,000-sf facility constructed on 14 acres with construction cost at $15.5 million.

The district plans to begin construction of the school in May 2017 with an opening scheduled for August 2018.

PEGA Development LLC, a Perry Williams company, is developing Tradewind Square as a subdivision of affordable housing.
Work is underway on preparing 121 lots for single-family homes, Williams said, and the first batch of homes will start being completed toward the end of this year.
