HOUSTON – Houston Bar Center, which has been around for just over a century, has been sold to be repurposed into an upscale hotel.

Construction will start on the estimated $44 million project, lead by Newcrest Image, after next year's Super Bowl. It will take about 13 months to complete.

Around 200 construction jobs and up to 100 permanent hotel jobs will be created by the project.

Located at 723 Main St., the ten-story building was originally developed for Gulf Oil.
