Midland-Odessa to build 18K-SF joint DPS office
MIDLAND - The Texas Department (DPS) of Public Safety Office plans on combining the Odessa and Midland DPS offices to one larger center located between the two.
The new 18,000-sf facility is slated for construction near the Midland International Air and Space Port on Loop 40 and Wright Dr. in Midland.
The DPS initially sought about $50 million in appropriations for five projects but got instead about $42 million.
Transportation Alliance, a non-profit group, added that patrons can use their smart phones to make their appointments to take care of their driver’s license tests and other needs without having to come to the facility.
Officials said the move will make it easier for patrons to take care of driving tests and other vehicle-related needs.
The new building is expected to open in September 2017.
