BELLMEAD – The City of Bellmead was awarded a $1.9 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to aid in the $2.8 million replacement and expansion of Tirey Rd.
The project is anticipated to promote economic development for the region, reduce traffic congestion on adjacent residential roadways and improve storm water management for the surrounding area.
The project involved other partners including local businesses, the City of Waco, the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, Waco Industrial Foundation, Heart of Texas Council of Governments and Texas State Technical College.
The EDA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce that leads their federal economic development agenda, was impressed by the community’s collaborative efforts with the county and surrounding communities.
This is one of the largest grants awarded to a community in recent history by the EDA.
The EDA added that the road expansion will provide increased commerce capacity for existing business such as the new Sherwin Williams facility, L-3 Platform Integration, Sanderson Farms, and other local operations by connecting directly to Hwy. 84.
Construction is scheduled to begin late fall or early winter 2016 with an estimated completion date of nine to 12 months later.
