WACO – The $3 million Dewey Community Center has opened.

Youths will be among the first to use the 20,000-sf building that includes a renovated gymnasium with seating, a computer lab, game room, fitness and locker rooms, classrooms and a multipurpose room for community events.
The center fronting Dewey Park at 925 N. Ninth St. replaces a former two-building community center.
One of those buildings was demolished, the other stripped to the girders and rebuilt in a project by Barsh Construction Co. of Waco, which began construction in May 2015.
The work is finished except for some landscaping work on the grounds.
