SAN MARCOS - Amazon is officially hiring in Central Texas, looking to fill hundreds of jobs at the new 855,000-sf facility to be completed this summer.

In addition to their human counterparts, employees hired will be working alongside Amazon robotics to fulfill customer orders.

“Associates will be stationed at ergonomic work stations and when customer orders come in, the robots will bring the inventory to them at the work station, where an associate will pick the item off a shelf and put in a tote and get sent off to packing,” explains Ashley Robinson, spokesperson for Amazon Operations.

Robinson says at the San Marcos location, they’ll be fulfilling smaller customer items, anything from books to CDs to vitamins.

She says, with the help of robotics, they’re able to have almost twice as much inventory.

“Of course we won’t be able to hire 1,000 right out the gate, but we’re definitely looking to create over 1,000 jobs,” said Robinson.

“We’re really excited to begin fulfilling customer orders out of San Marcos.”

Through their partnership with San Marcos, Amazon is getting a 40 percent tax break on property taxes for the next ten years, plus additional benefits.

They say it’s just the beginning of a long relationship with the city.
