$63M special delivery to Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso
EL PASO – Las Palmas Medical Center plans to complete a $63 million 90,000-sf addition by early 2018 to increase its birthing and neonatal services, and to add a helipad.
The expansion is needed to serve a growing number of baby deliveries, and to have the "latest and greatest equipment" and facilities to support that demand, Las Palmas Chief Executive Officer Don Karl said.
A three-story addition, including one floor that will be kept empty for future expansion, will be added to the top of the hospital’s emergency department.
It is located across Oregon St. from the main 316-bed hospital in West Central El Paso.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2016.
Las Palmas’ expansion comes as its competitor, The Hospitals of Providence, is in the midst of two large projects—construction of a $120 million hospital in far West El Paso, and a $120 million, three-year renovation of its Sierra, Memorial, and Providence Children’s hospital campuses. The Memorial campus is across the street from Las Palmas.
The project also includes a 3,000-sf energy plant.
