HOUSTON - What do most Houston apartment renters want?

To live in a one-bedroom unit and pay about $850 a month, according to a study by real estate listing firm Zumper.

And being in the Galleria/Uptown area, a mecca for shopping and working, wouldn't hurt.

Zumper analyzed calls and emails sent to Houston apartment listings on its platform in April.

It then came up with a list of the most popular apartment configurations and neighborhoods.

The top neighborhoods for apartment inquiries in April, according to Zumper's analysis, were: Uptown, Greater Third Ward, Greenway-Upper Kirby, Astrodome, Woodlake-Briar Meadow, Neartown-Montrose, Oak Forest-Garden Oaks, Downtown, Midtown and Southbelt-Ellington.

One-bedroom units accounted for 38 percent of the inquiries in April.

Two-bedroom units were the second most popular, generating 30 percent of calls and messages with a median price of $1,050.

Three bedrooms got 17 percent of inquiries with a median of $1,400. Studios got 9 percent of inquiries, with a median rent of $695.

Four-bedroom units received 6 percent of the inquiries with a median rent of $1,600.
