SAN ANTONIO – The Old Spanish Walking Trail and Flood Control Basin in the 3600 block of Fredericksburg Rd. will provide recreational facilities when not deployed as a regional stormwater retention facility during major storms.

Built on the former site of a flea market on the Northwest Side, the $28 million project that was funded by Bexar County will be operated as a 26-acre city park.

There are soccer fields in the sunken area.

A half-mile walking trail and parking lots are located at street level.
