HOUSTON – Hotel Alessandra, the 20-story tower under construction in downtown, will not open in time for the Super Bowl as expected.

The developer, Houston-based Midway, reported that the hotel project will open in mid-2017, as opposed to late this year.

Houston will host this year’s Super Bowl and many projects, large and small, have been building steam to ready the city for all the visitors.

The project is now under construction on a block bounded by Main, Dallas, Polk and Fannin.

Midway said Hotel Alessandra was planned originally not because of the Super Bowl, but rather "to elevate the GreenStreet experience."

The 223-room hotel, which would be part of Midway’s Green St. development in downtown, was announced in March 2014.
Midway will own the hotel.
