CORPUS CHRISTI - Work is expected to begin this month on the new 32,000-sf Alamo Drafthouse.

The $5.8 million project is slated for the city's southside, at the corner of South Staples St. and Yorktown Blvd.

The theater will have seven screens and about 900 seats.

It will play the latest box office hits and even have themes, bringing back old classics, sing-alongs and indie films while waiters serve food, drinks or alcoholic beverages during the movie.

Jeffrey Dinger, the Portland developer behind the project, says, "It's the first theater that will have been built in Corpus Christi since 2002."

Construction is set to begin this week. The goal is to be open in time for “Star Wars: Episode VII,” which is scheduled for release December 18.
