‚ÄčKATY - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. plans to open five new eco-friendly hotels in Texas by the end of 2018, including one in the Houston area.

The move will quadruple the brand's presence in Texas, from two to eight hotels over the next two years.

The new Houston-area location, Element Katy, will feature 135 guest rooms, 2,500 sf of meeting space, an outdoor pool and a fitness center.

It will be located in the Grand Crossing mixed-use development.

Grand Crossing will include the 1.8-acre hotel site, approximately 15 acres for multifamily development, about 300,000 sf of office space and at least 500,000 sf of big box, junior anchor, in-line and pad retail space for tenants such as Costco.

The new hotel is slated to deliver in March 2018.
