​​​​​COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M University is planning more than $68 million in new athletic facilities. The A&M System Board of Regents will vote on the issue at its meeting tomorrow.

Plans include a new $39.8 million track-and-field stadium and a $28.6 million softball stadiumBoth facilities would be built along Penberthy Rd. between Tom Chandler Rd. and George Bush Dr. 

The 100,000-sf track-and-field stadium is designed to seat more than 3,000. The softball stadium will accommodate about 2,000.

If approved, construction would start as early as this summer. Work could be finished at the end of next year.

The 12th Man Foundation has committed to spend $5 million per year over the next five years to fund the new facilities.
