SAN ANTONIO – The $7.5 million makeover of Southside’s Pearsall Park will be unveiled in a couple of months.

The 526-acre park will be the one of the city’s largest, and the only park in the city with a 5K, 10K, and single loop half-marathon course.

To augment the 231 acres of former landfill, the city purchased 268 acres from the Cox family for roughly $1 million.

The park also includes 26 acres of the Leon Creek Greenway, according to the department of Transportation and Capital Improvements.

The district was awarded $8.5 million for park improvements in the 2012 bond.

The final design divides the park into "bubbles" to reflect the shapes of the rolling hills around the site. Each bubble has a different focus such as fitness, family fun, and mountain bike courses.

A concrete skatepark will add yet another dimension to the activity at Pearsall Park.
