GARLAND - One of the latest high-dollar development projects in Dallas-Fort Worth will bring the initial phase of a $330 million, 42-acre data center campus near Telecom Rd. and Lookout Dr.

The 1 million-sf, 80-megawatt data center campus is being developed by Sacramento-based RagingWire Data Centers in partnership with NTT Communications Corp.

“Dallas is one of the largest data center markets in North America and we are talking to a lot of companies that want to move into the region,” said David Gwin, Garland’s economic development director.

So far, those interested parties are looking for potential development sites that are 25 acres or larger. Most are looking for more than 50 acres of land to develop.

RagingWire isn’t the only player looking to get in on Dallas-Fort Worth’s data center game—in the past few years, Carrollton-based CyrusOne Inc. has tripled the size of its global data center business, with plans to invest about $600 million a year for the next five years, or about $3 billion.

Last year, Dallas-Fort Worth absorbed 42.3 megawatts of data center space, which ranked the region No. 2 behind northern Virginia (which absorbed a whopping 63 megawatts), according to JLL’s latest data center research.
