DALLAS - Southwest Airlines hopes to break ground in late spring on a major expansion of its facilities at Dallas’ Love Field—a new flight training facility to be built on a more than 14-acre tract of land.

The Dallas-based airline has filed building permits to construct a $145 million “office building and flight simulator building” at 2175 Research Row.

The new complex would contain more than 865,000 sf and will be six stories, according to the building permits.

The development site is in the same area where Southwest recently built an almost $100 million addition to its Dallas base.

To connect the two operations, Southwest will build a $3 million, 5,571-sf pedestrian sky bridge across Denton Dr.

Southwest’s expansion is one of the largest new commercial building projects in the Love Field area.
