FORT WORTH - Amazon.com said it’s planning a sixth Texas fulfillment center and its fourth in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The new 1 million-sf center will be located at 15201 Heritage Pkwy. and will process and ship smaller merchandise orders such as books, electronics and toys.

Amazon said the new building will employ 1,000 people. The company already has more than 8,000 full-time hourly employees in Texas.

The Seattle-based online retailer’s other Texas fulfillment centers are in Haslet, Coppell, southern Dallas and Schertz, which is near San Antonio. A fifth location is under construction in San Marcos.

Amazon also has three smaller operations in Texas that sort sealed packages from fulfillment centers. Packages are sorted by ZIP code for the U.S. Postal Service to deliver.

These "sortation centers" are located in Irving, Houston and San Antonio.

It also recently opened another delivery pickup area near Love Field in Dallas called a Prime Now hub for its speedier one-day and one- and two-hour deliveries. Those boxes are delivered to customers by Amazon hired drivers.
