CORPUS CHRISTI – The Galvan Ballroom is being declared a Texas Treasure by the Texas Historical Commission on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 5 p.m.

The public is invited.

The building, 1632 Agnes St., was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Galvan Ballroom has been around since 1950 and is widely considered to have played a major role in the city’s musical and cultural development.

The ballroom was once the heart of the music industry in Corpus Christi.

Built in 1949 by Rafael Galvan, the current owner is Galvan’s son Bobby Galvan Sr.

Underneath the ballroom is the Galvan Music Store which remains open and continues to be a tradition for many people in the community.
