GRANJENO, HIDALGO COUNTY - After a decade of planning and financial obstacles, Granjeno finally broke ground for its park project.

“We have very low resources here,” Mayor Yvette Cabrera said. “We don’t have too much here for the kids, for the adults.”

The park project is heralded as a positive development for the city that has been a long time coming.

It is expected to include a walking trail along the perimeter of the park, a children’s play area, restroom facilities, basketball court and a volleyball court, according to Rey Robles of Hinojosa Engineering.

Once construction begins, the park is expected to take less than four months to complete.

Even though it did not officially become a city until 1993, the Granjeno has been around since 1767, said former Mayor Alberto Magallan.
