SAN ANTONIO - The Witte Museum has spent the better part of the last few weeks putting finishing touches on one of the key anchors of its $100 million redevelopment—the new Mays Family Center.

The $15 million project, which will house its first major exhibition next month, and will give the San Antonio institution some much-needed flexibility and an opportunity to pursue more lucrative events.

The Mays center was funded in part by a $5 million matching gift from San Antonio philanthropist Lowry Mays and his family. It's a critical part of the 174,000 sf of space the Witte is adding or improving.

Space issues are less a concern now, as the Mays center includes 10,000 sf of indoor space and 9,000 sf of outdoor space that will allow the museum to pursue a variety of events.
