SAN ANTONIO - Floodplain issues, blanket-pipeline easement concerns and inconvenient zoning left almost 97 acres of vacant land on the market for decades.

But once the property was rezoned to accommodate light industrial uses, it finally caught the attention of an interested buyer —the City of San Antonio.

The City of San Antonio purchased a four-site property that spans 96.23 acres.

The land is located at 1520 SE Loop 410, between US 87 and East Houston St.

With plans for a Southeast Side maintenance facility, the city will begin developing the initial 50 acres to build a new service center for waste management trucks and patrol cars. It plans to create hundreds of new jobs.

Service centers support city operations and are used to repair, refuel and wash city vehicles and store equipment.
