AUSTIN - The Pond Hockey Club is launching an expansion that will turn it into one of the state’s largest ice hockey facilities.

The North Austin business plans to grow its facility by 25,000 sf and add a second rink that is large enough to host regional tournaments through the sport’s national body, USA Hockey.

It will also add four locker rooms and additional practice and spectator space.

The facility is located at 9402 United Dr., near MoPac Expressway and US 183.

The building currently sits at 16,000 sf with 10,500 sf of ice.

When the expansion is finished, the facility will be 41,000 sf with 26,500 sf of ice.

The new rink will allow the hockey club to enlarge its youth programs by 200 percent and its adult programs by 130 percent.

The expansion is expected to be completed in fall 2016.
