AUSTIN-ROUND ROCK - The Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area was ranked sixth among the country's most-educated metros by ValuePenguin, a personal finance website.

The Texas capital received high marks for the educational achievements of its 25-and-older population as well as the quality of local public schools and universities.

To complete the survey, ValuePenguin sorted through data on America's 200 most populous cities and assigned values to certain traits.

The report measured four different areas to compile an overall score:

  • Attainment: The percentage of 25-and-older population to reach a specific level of education (i.e. high school, college, and beyond)
  • Education and Poverty: The percentage of 25-and-older population whose poverty status is determined by a specific level of education.
  • School Quality: The ratings of primary and secondary schools as well as universities, according to two survey-based sources.
  • Education and Employment: The percentage of 25-and-older population who are employed, according to their specific level of education.

Austin measured 16th in attainment, 77th in education and poverty, 22nd in school quality and 40th in education and employment.

The top five educated metros as measured by ValuePenguin were:

  • San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California
  • Boulder, Colorado
  • San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, California
  • Fort Collins, Colorado
  • Ann Arbor, Michigan
