DALLAS - Home prices in the Dallas-area have shot up by almost 40 percent since the last recession, and prices rose another 9.2 percent from a year ago in the latest Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller Home Price Index.

Home prices in Dallas increased at one of the fastest rates in the country in January.
Nationwide home prices were 5.4 percent higher than in January 2014 and are still about 5 percent below where they were in 2006 before the housing market bust, according to Case-Shiller’s index.
Dallas-area prices are now about 20 percent ahead of where they were at the peak of the last local housing cycle in mid-2007.
North Texas home prices are rising at more than twice their average long-term rates.
