HOUSTON - A popular outdoor activity venue within Houston's Buffalo Bayou Park will shutter in April for six months of renovations, courtesy of some of Houston's most iconic business leaders.

The Jamail family has donated approximately $2 million to the Lee and Joe Jamail Skate park for a major remodel, which will boost the appearance and add modern upgrades, according to the Houston Parks Board.

The skate park will close on April 4 for the redevelopment and reopen October 10.

Additions to the park will include a grass terrace seating area, innovative shade and cooling structures and graffiti boards for local artists to work on.

Additionally, the park's entrance on Sabine St., known as Skater Alley, will add a new design.

Jim Petersen is funding the redesign of Skater Alley and also donated to the larger renovations. However, construction is not yet funded or scheduled, according to the parks board.
