WACO - Waco City Council voted to move forward with a deal to trade city-owned land near I-35 and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. for the Floyd Casey Stadium site once Baylor University finishes demolition.

Waco City Council has hopes of getting major redevelopment at both locations.

The council authorized City Manager Dale Fisseler to make the swap with Baylor University, the sole bidder last summer for the city’s five-acre property.

Baylor is demolishing Floyd Casey Stadium, and the deal won’t close until the stadium is clear and the city is able to do an environmental assessment of the 84-acre stadium tract.

Meanwhile, the city already has spent more than $2.4 million remediating polluted soil at the five-acre I-35 site next to McLane Stadium.
