SAN ANTONIO – The new Walmart Neighborhood Market along East Southcross Blvd. may be just a fraction of the retailer’s typical store footprint, but highlights the biggest trends it and other convenience, grocery and big-box stores are facing: convenience and customization.
This smaller 41,000-sf store format is the first Neighborhood Market in the southside and will have a fuel station and a new gourmet custom pizza bar.
All three stores at 3418 E. Southcross, 9005 FM 1560 North on the far Northwest Side and 6938 Walzem Rd. in the Northeast sector will average 41,000 sf and make it as easy for the customer to get in and out quickly as possible.
The new Neighborhood Market floor plans have the horizontal aisle running from one end of the store to the next, breaking up the formatting to allow customers to travel around the store with more fluidity.
Walmart will have eight operating Neighborhood Market stores in San Antonio with two other locations slated to open later this year—one at 3847 Pleasanton Rd. this May, and another at Toepperwein Rd. and Kitty Hawk Dr. in Converse in August.
