SAN ANTONIO - Fueling interest among retailers looking to establish a presence in San Antonio and grow alongside it, the city's solid retail market will only continue to perpetuate a strong demand for space.

The only downside? There hasn't been enough to fill.

New and existing retailers continue to fill up space in San Antonio, but development is struggling to keep up with the swell in demand.

According to REOC San Antonio's year-end 2015 retail market report, the sector closed the year with a citywide vacancy rate of 9.3 percent, a slight drop from the 9.4 percent posted in 2014.

Supply in the city's central business district and southern submarkets had the steepest drop in vacancy rates, posting 10.1 percent in the last quarter 2014 and less than 8.5 percent for the same period in 2015.
