McALLEN - Fifty stores, four junior anchor stores and six restaurants will make up the new 245,000-sf shopping experience at La Plaza Mall.

All-glass entrances, skylights and two-leveled parking decks leading straight into two of the building’s larger “anchor stores”—Macy’s and Dillard’s—will be among the project’s biggest physical attributes.

Simon, the 1.2 million-sf mall’s parent company, expects to complete the work by fall 2017.

A pair of two-leveled parking garages will make room for 2,000 vehicles, according to a news release from Simon.

Construction for one of the two-leveled parking garages decks is set to start in the next few months, which David Contis, president of Simon, slated for completion by November.

With all these additions and updates, the project’s price tag has come into question, however it was originally filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation with a $2.4 million budget last summer.

At least 500 to 750 permanent jobs will come along with the project and about 100 jobs will pop up during construction.
