EL PASO – Bruce Foods Corp. plans to lay off 171 workers
from its food-canning plant in Northeast El Paso.

The layoffs are due to Louisiana-based Bruce Foods selling
its Mexican foods brands to California-based Teasdale Foods.

The El Paso plant, located at 8000 Ashley Rd., will remain
open.

The layoffs are scheduled to begin around May 2 and will be
completed by May 16, reported Pat Rocha, plant general manager.

The El Paso plant employs as many as 500 people
during its peak canning season in the summer.
